Ansie Dippenaar-Schoeman is an NRF-rated Specialist Scientist at the ARC-Plant Protection Research Institute. She is also the manager of the South African National Survey of Arachnida and has been involved in spider research for the last 46 years. Her research has resulted in more than 250 published articles as well as seven books and she has won several awards for her research. As an extraordinary professor at the University of Pretoria she is also involved in training and has co-supervised 22 students. She spends a lot of time promoting spiders to the public through radio talks, educational posters and media articles. She manages two online databases, one of which is a virtual museum, that involve the public in spider research.
